Search "KS2 tuition near me" and most results look identical: a hero banner, a list of subjects, a row of tutor photos. What actually helps a parent decide is different information: what Key Stage 2 covers year by year, which parts of it are formally tested, when those tests fall, and what that means for a child sitting in Year 3, 4, 5 or 6 right now.
Key Stage 2 runs from Year 3 to Year 6, ages 7 to 11, and covers three core subjects (English, mathematics and science) alongside eight foundation subjects including computing, geography, history and a modern foreign language, as set out in the National Curriculum framework for key stages 1 and 2. Treating "KS2 support" as one undifferentiated block misses what actually changes year to year:
Year 3 consolidates KS1 foundations: times tables beyond 2, 5 and 10, and longer independent reading.
Year 4 ends with a statutory check on multiplication fluency (below).

The check itself is short and specific: 25 questions covering the times tables up to 12, each with a 6-second answer window and a 3-second pause between questions, testing speed of recall rather than working-out. KS1 reading rewards finding an answer stated on the page; KS2 reading, and the Year 6 reading test specifically, rewards inference, comparison between texts, and vocabulary in context, a different skill that needs direct practice, not just more reading volume.
Grammar terminology trips up parents as much as children. Subordinate clauses, fronted adverbials, the subjunctive mood: GPS papers use precise grammatical vocabulary that didn't exist in most parents' own primary education, which is often why homework help at home stalls.
Times tables fluency compounds. A child who reaches Year 4 still counting up in fives to find 7 × 8 isn't just at risk in the MTC; that lack of automatic recall slows down every multiplication, division and fraction question for the rest of KS2.
